When it comes to Avira, I will admit they have good signatures, but they rely on those signatures almost completely which is not good in the modern era of malware. I pair it with Malwarebytes Premium and it makes for a ridiculously powerful suite of malware prevention.īitdefender free is ok but it is really basic and only allows you to change one setting. Avast has been moving away from signatures and that makes their products so much more powerful. It is also very light on system resources mostly thanks to the fact that Avast is moving more of their technologies to the cloud. I use it and love it, and have never found it annoying (I use Premier but have used free in the past). I'd recommend Avast free to you, once you activate the product, (which is free to do) it will not annoy you at all. I hope that helps and I'd also encourage you to check out independent testing sites such as AV-TEST and AV-comparatives as other resources while you search. You can also customize your installation so only the modules you want are installed, or alternately enable/disable modules of your choice.įinally, as far as ads go, our Free version does have notifications for other Avast products (it's how we support Free) but these can be disabled if you upgrade to any paid version. You shouldn't see any impact at all on an up-to-date system. Even our Free version has technology designed to detect zero-day malware, ransomware, and unknown threats before they can do damage.Īs for lightness, we're consistently highly rated for performance. We've been evolving rapidly as the threat landscape has changed so much in the past few years.
